The all-new Kia Cee'd will make its world premiere at the 82nd Geneva International Auto Salon in March but the South Korean automaker wants us to get a better view of its VW Golf rival with the release of another set of photos, which include the very first pictures of its interior.

The car's overall appearance is in line with Kia's latest crop of models and especially the Optima sedan. This is even more evident inside with Kia promising a more premium look and feel, higher perceived quality and enhanced driving position ergonomics.

Compared to the previous model, the overall length of the new car has been increased by 50 mm to 4,310 mm while overall height has been reduced by 10 mm to 1,470 mm by lowering the ride height.

Even though it is based on a completely new platform, the 2012 Cee'd carries over the 2,650 mm wheelbase from its predecessor. The bodyshell is 10mm narrower but the front and rear track have been increased by 17 mm and 32 mm, respectively.

Kia says that front seat occupants have 12 mm more headroom and 21 mm more legroom, while rear passengers gain 5 mm of shoulder room. Boot space has been boosted by 12 per cent to 380 liters (up by 40 liters) with the rear seats up.

The Cee'd uses a fully-independent, subframe-mounted suspension with MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link set-up at the rear axle.

The standard steering system employs electric power-assistance but Kia also offers an optional, all-new Flex Steer system that introduces three operating modes – comfort, normal and sport, which allow the driver to vary the level of steering assistance and the weight of feedback.

In most European countries, the new Cee'd will be available with two gasoline units, a 1.4-liter with 90PS (89bhp) and a 1.6-liter with 130PS (128bhp), and two diesel engines, a 1.4L with 90PS (89bhp) and a 1.6L with up to 128PS (126bhp).

All engines will be offered with a choice of manual or automatic six-speed transmissions, while the 1.6L GDI petrol will also be available with Kia’s six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).

The Korean company anticipates that its top of the range 126bhp 1.6-liter diesel will be the most popular choice in Europe.

Kia has revealed the first official photos of its upcoming next-generation Rio, which will make its official debut in Geneva alongside the Picanto.

The new Rio will be available in three body styles (3-door and 5-door hatch, as well as 4-door sedan), and the company says that the B-segment offering will have a premium presence that’s rare in this segment.

The vehicle gets its own interpretation of Kia’s signature grille, integrated with the headlamps to give a new twist on the Kia family look. In profile, the body to glass ratio and its strong wedge form give the hatch a dynamic, sporty stance.

The new model features a wheelbase extended by 70 mm – to 2,570 mm – and promises greater passenger space and comfort, as well as increased cargo capacity to 292 litres (hatchback) and 390 litres (sedan). Exterior dimensions changes include an increase of 55 mm in overall length and 25 mm in overall width, though its height has been reduced by 15 mm over the old one to give the new Rio a sportier stance.

Inside, the new car will deliver a high level of quality previously associated with larger models, together with a wide selection of trim options.

The Rio will get six engine choices in all, depending on market, from a 69 hp 1.1 litre diesel unit for Europe up to a 1.6 litre GDI pot producing 138 hp for North America. Europe will also get an all-new, high-performance 1.2 litre turbo GDI unit from 2012.

Minivans are the automotive equivalent of cargo pants – plenty functional but not exactly what we'd call stylish. Kia is out to tackle that little problem with its KV7 Concept by doing what the company does best and embracing the box. Along with trick styling traits like massive gull-wing doors and a seemingly continuous string of windows from the A-pillar to the rear of the vehicle, the KV7 also boasts a host of similarly fancy interior bits. Occupants can take advantage of custom swivel seats, and the rear of the KV7 Concept holds a mini-lounge for kicking back with friends.

Even better, there's enough onboard tech to keep everyone entertained. Kia has built in a floating table-top touch-screen computer, and the Wi-Fi enabled cabin allows up to six users to connect their smart phones at the same time.

Surprisingly enough, Kia has decided to skip the typical concept electric drivetrain in favor of showing off the company's turbocharged gasoline direct-injection four-cylinder engine. With 285 horsepower bolted to a six-speed automatic transmission, the KV7 would theoretically have no problem moving all of that glass around.

Following the release of two teaser sketches in December, Kia today published real-life photos of its second generation Picanto city car, which is set to debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March. The 2011 Picanto will be offered in two body styles and with four all-new engines.

Kia’s Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, said, “In profile, the new Picanto features significant sculpting and a very prominent rising character line. The result is a layering of light and shadow and this breaks up the height, giving the car a more sure-footed stance”.

Details are scarce right now, but the automaker claims the car has grown in length and has a longer wheelbase, which should improve interior space. Unlike the outgoing model which is available exclusively as a five-door hatchback, the new Picanto will be offered in both 5-door and 3-door body styles (at least in Europe).

The engine range will comprise of 1.0 and 1.2-liter gasoline engines, while Kia will also offer LPG, bi-fuel and flex-fuel variations, depending on local market requirements.

Kia has not given the exact timing of the car's arrival in European markets, but buyers should expect to see the new Picanto in showrooms in the second-half of the year.

The Kia Forte Hybrid Concept that was presented in the SEMA Show study "demonstrates styling options for those looking for an alternative to a mundane hybrid ride." According to Kia officials.

It is based on the South Korean market Forte LPI Hybrid, which utilizes a 1.6-liter LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) engine coupled to an electric motor with 15kW and 105Nm and a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

The SEMA Show tune comes courtesy of Kinetic Motorsports and it includes a subtle aero kit, new alloy wheels wrapped in low-rolling resistance tires and a lowered suspension.

Inside, the tuner modded the Forte Hybrid with two-tone black and green leather upholstery and matching door panels and decorative trim, plus a 1200 watt Infinity audio system.

Kia has announced that it will be unveiling a three seater electric city car concept at the Paris Motor Show this year. No official information has been given about the electric drive train but from the pictures, we can see that it features a 2 + 1 seating layout.

Other notable cars with similar design include the Gordon Murray T25, which has a centred seating position for the driver and two back seats for the passengers. The POP on the other hand, seems to feature a bench-like seat in front, with a single seat at the back. It would be interesting to see how much boot space is left in the small car.

Measuring in at three metres long, the car’s competitor will be the Smart forTwo and the Toyota iQ. Further information will be revealed by the Korean company closer to its debut on the 30th of September. The POP follows Kia’s release of the plug in hybrid Ray concept, in its range of eco-friendly concepts.
