What Mercedes-Benz called a concept at last November's LA Auto Show is being fashioned as the new limited production GLA 45 AMG Edition 1 at this week's Detroit motor show where the series is making its world premiere. The white colored Edition 1 with the flashy red and silver livery maintains the regular GLA 45 AMG's 2.0-liter turbocharged four with 355hp (360PS) and 450Nm (332 lb-ft), connected to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports dual clutch transmission and the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, adding styling and aero mods. Exterior color options for this model are restricted to four options, the cirrus white seen on the display car, cosmos black, polar silver and mountain gray, while the interior is finished in red and black, with exclusive trims. Both the base GLA 45 AMG and the Edition 1 will go on sale in the USA in the fall of 2014 with prices to be announced. The truly all-new A class made its debut in Geneva today. Unlike its predecessor the 2013 Mercedes-Benz A-Class hatchback no longer looks like a mini MPV and now sports a hatch look.

From launch, Mercedes-Benz will offer a broad range of gasoline and diesel engines. The petrol lineup includes three four-cylinder options: the A180 with a 1.6-liter turbocharged unit producing 121hp (122PS), the A200 that uses a 154hp (156PS) version of the 1.6-liter unit and the A250 powered by a 2.0-liter turbo delivering 208hp (211PS)

On the diesel front, we find the A180 CDI with a 1.8-liter engine churning out 108hp (109PS) and 250Nm (184 lb-ft), the A200 CDI with the same unit rated at 134hp (136PS) and 300Nm (221 lb-ft), and the A220 CDI with a 2.2-liter turbocharged four delivering 168hp (170PS) and 350Nm (258 lb-ft).

All engines in the new A-Class come equipped with the ECO start/stop function as standard and can be combined either with a new six-speed manual gearbox or an optional 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The German company is also planning to introduce a flagship AMG model that will use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine possibly delivering well over 300-horses.

After a leak earlier in the week, which we carried here, Mercedes-Benz has decided to reveal everything about their all new B-Class ahead of its world debut at Frankfurt next month. To sum it up, Stuttgart says that their new ‘Compact Sports Tourer’ is ‘substantially more agile and efficient, but as comfortable and spacious as ever’.

As expected, the new B-Class has a substantially bigger footprint that the car it replaces. At 4,359 mm long and 1,786 mm wide, it’s 89 mm longer and 9 mm wider, although the new car sits 46 mm lower than before. Accordingly, the seat height in relation to the road has also been reduced by 86 mm, for easier vehicle entry, says Merc. They add that in response to customer requests, the sitting position is now more upright.

For those at the back, which is important for this model, a lowering of the vehicle’s floor at the rear produces segment-leading rear legroom (976 mm) that even surpasses that of the E and S-Class! And despite the lower roofline, headroom has been further improved over the old car.

Additionally, there’s an Easy-Vario-Plus system that includes fore/aft adjustment of the rear seats by up to 140 mm (increasing boot volume from 488 to 666 litres) and a front passenger seat which backrest can be folded forward onto the seat cushion.

Now, the B’s new looks might not be agreeable to all, it’s hard to argue with its slippery drag coefficient of 0.26. This is helped by areas such as air flow around the front wheels, underbody design and the cooling air flow. Patents are pending for details such as the serrated wheel arch spoiler. An upcoming optional Eco Technology package will bring the Cd figure down to 0.24, which is on par with the E-Class CoupĂ© and impressive for a hatchback shape.

The new M270 engines feature Merc’s third-generation direct injection system that first surfaced in last year’s BlueDirect V6 and V8 engines. Both are 1.6-litre turbocharged units with max torque available from 1,250 rpm. The one in the B 180 is rated at 122 hp and 200 Nm, while the B 200 has 156 hp and 250 Nm.

The diesels are based on the OM651 family used from the C to the S-Class, but with displacement scaled down to 1.8 litres and mounted transversely for the first time. The B 180 CDI generates 109 hp and 250 Nm from 1,400 rpm, while the B 200 CDI packs in 136 hp and 300 Nm from 1,600 rpm. All engines can be paired to a new 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission or a new six-speed manual, which Merc says is closely related to the DCT.

Mercedes promises improved agility, thanks to the new B’s lowered centre of gravity, a new four-link rear axle and the upgraded ESP. A sports suspension is optionally available. This one further lowers the ride height by 20 mm and features sports dampers with amplitude-selective damping and Direct-Steer (faster, sharper response) for the electromechanical steering.

The new B is build with a modular ‘Energy Space’ concept that’s designed to accommodate versions with an alternative drive. There are interfaces in the body shell that enables the floor panel to be easily modified, plus an underfloor compartment covering part of the area under the rear bench seat for ‘alternative energy accumulators’.

Italian tuner Romeo Ferraris has released a tuning kit for the high performance Mercedes Benz C63 AMG. Dubbed as the “2012 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG Whitestorm".
The tuner has done a good work upgrading the performance of the car by remapping the ECU, adding new exhaust and suspension systems. The tweaking of the 6.2 liter V8 engine and exhaust system improves the power output from 457 hp (301kW) to 540 hp (341kW). The stock exhaust system is completely replaced by the tuner with its high performance parts, including the manifold, which contributes in the improved power output of the engine. With such impressive power statistics, this car sprints from 0-100 km/hr in mere 4 seconds- a 0.5 second improvement over the production model. The car clocks a top speed of over 300 km/hr and crosses the 200 km/hr mark in only 12.5 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz has finally dropped the full batch of details and photos of its latest flagship: the SLS AMG Roadster.

The new droptop loses the gullwing doors of its coupe counterpart, but those German engineers have gone to great lengths to ensure it loses nothing else in the process. Chopping the roof, fitting conventional doors, and stiffening the body as required results in a convertible that only weighs 88 lbs more than the coupe. The roof-available in black, red or beige-can be dropped or raised in just eleven seconds at speeds up to 31 mph.

Top speed is electronically limited in either position to 197 mph, while officially quoted acceleration times, for some reason, drop from 3.8 seconds in the gullwing coupe to 3.7 in the Roadster. Along with the convertible roof, Mercedes has also packed in a new electronically-controlled Adaptive AMG Sport Suspension, AMG Performance Media system to track and display vehicle telemetrics, and an AMG Drive Unit to control it all.

It won’t be long before Mercedes stops production of the short wheelbase version (SWB) of its iconic G-Class series, but before that happens, the German company is launching a limited production model, fittingly called the “BA3 Final Edition” as a last hurrah. It is joined by a special version of the long-wheelbase model (LWB) called the “Edition Select”, based on the G500.

The G-Class BA3 Final Edition is available with two engine variants (G 350 BlueTEC and G 500) and sports several AMG elements such as the flared wheel arches painted in the same color as the rest of the vehicle, radiator grille with chrome highlights, 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels, stainless-steel running boards and spare wheel cover. Other features include an electric sunroof, metallic paintwork, parking radar and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Carlsson released a new tuning package for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet, offering 20 percent more power, a new aero package and interior improvements. All these are available for the E 350 CDI model, whose 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine delivers 231 horsepower in its stock form. As expected, Carlsson didn't think that was enough, so it developed the C-Tronic Diesel Power CD28-35 REVO package that consists mainly of ECU remapping.

Engine power is boosted by 20 percent to 280 horsepower, while maximum torque goes from 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) to 648 Nm (478 lb-ft). The package is also available as a retrofit solution, for a price of €1,784 ($2,532). The sport end mufflers with two double-walled stainless steel end tubes are even more expensive, at €2,319 ($3,290).

Carlsson also worked on the suspension, offering sport springs that lower the car by 30 millimeters and improve handling. The aerodynamic package consists of a new front bumper with an RS spoiler lip, a rear spoiler plus redesigned bumper and assorted sills. The car rides on light Carlsson-designed wheels, sized from 18 to 20 inches, with complete sets of rims and tires available from €2,712 ($3,850).

Inside, Carlsson offers only new details such as gearshift lever covered with leather and Alcantara, aluminum door pins, soft velvet door mats with the Carlsson logo and aluminum pedals with footrests.

Designed as a replacement for both the CLK and CLC Sports Coupe, the firm's entry-level two door model will take on both the BMW 1- and 3-Series coupes. It is largely based on the freshly facelifted C-Class model series featuring an almost identical front end, but a unique styling from the A-pillars and back with a more rakish roofline, a Hoffmeister-esque kink on the rear window and a new rear end.

From what we can tell by looking at the two photos of the interior that have made their way onto the web, the dashboard appears to be unchanged from the rest of the 2012 C-Class models.

The engine range will most likely include the same force-fed four-cylinder naturally aspirated 302HP V6 gasoline units found on the other C-Class cars, while a range-topping V8 powerplant should make its way into the BMW 1 M and M3 rivaling AMG variant.
